Mitov: The point is we could go top six

- BY FRASER MACKIE

DIMITAR MITOV has heard plenty of plaudits for Dundee’s pleasing Premiership season.

But he reckons there should be some love for St Johnstone if they leapfrog their Tayside rivals with a win at Dens tomorrow.

mitov stressed Saints sights are on storming the top six while the rest of the division is inactive.

victory in the postponed fixture would see Craig levein’s side nip a point above Dundee.

and the Bulgarian goalie reckons that would switch the narrative of the entire campaign for his early-season strugglers.

mitov said: “This is a great opportunity. People are kind of saying we’re not having as good a season. But if we win on Sunday we’ll actually be in the top six and ahead of Dundee.

“i’m not normally a guy who looks closely at the league. i’m usually focusing game-by-game.

“But there’s been a lot of talk about this. and the manager has let us know if we win, we’re top six and the whole picture changes.

“That’s why that win at Ross County was so big. We don’t want to be down there, we want to finish as high as possible. like any other game, we go there and try to win. This is a bit different, we’re playing Dundee, a special occasion for the fans and a local derby.

“and if we have the best version of ourselves then the three points will follow.”

Saints saw their goal-shy trend continue when losing 1-0 at home to hearts in midweek.

it’s 14 games since the Perth men netted twice in a match. But they still picked up 16 points in that spell to ease away from trouble.

now mitov has backed new boys Benji Kimpioka and adama Sidibeh to help out nicky Clark up top. he said: “We’ve got quality there to get goals but just need to be a bit more ruthless.

“We can see Benji getting more confident and fitter every game. his goal against Ross County was fantastic. he’s only going to get better.

“Adama came on with a lot of energy, he’s going to run and give 100 per cent.

“Nicky, give him half a chance and he’ll score. he’s a brilliant striker to have in the team.”
