Paulo’s keen to meet the desires of the Hoops fans

- BY MICHAEL GANNON

PAULO BERNARDO knows that Celtic fans are not just hoping to lift the Scottish Cup – they demand it.

That is nothing new to the benfica loanee and the Portuguese playmaker won’t duck the responsibility.

bernardo’s determined to fire Celts another step towards silverware against St Mirren in Paisley tomorrow.

He said: “The clubs are quite similar as there is a demand at both to win every game.

“It’s two very big clubs with high expectations.

“I am used to it and I am comfortable. At benfica you have to win every game – even with the youth teams. It’s the same at Celtic.

“As players we have that responsibility but that is why we are here.

“There is a demand to win trophies and that is what we want to do.

“We want to play well against St Mirren – and win the match.”

bernardo reckons Celtic have a bounce on the back of their last-gasp midweek win at Hibs, courtesy of Adam Idah’s second penalty.

He said: “It was a nice moment. Last-minute goals are always amazing.

“It was important to bring the win home and the confidence is up a little more.

“We need to keep going. It could be a big moment for us at the end of the season.

“It was also a big moment for Adam. Two goals in his first appearance from the start and an incredible performance.

“He is enjoying being here and showed he has the mentality for Celtic.

“you don’t only show that in one game though, he has to keep going and improving along with everyone in the team.”

benfica boss Roger Schmidt was singing bernardo’s praises this week and insists he’ll let the 22-year-old have a major say in his future.

The midfielder added: “It’s a compliment for me but my focus is on Celtic. Then I can talk to everyone and decide what happens next.”
