Jake:We can make it Fal right with fans

-

JAKE DAVIDSON admits Hamilton let their fans down with their 3-2 defeat from Annan and owe it to fans to get a result at title rivals Falkirk this weekend.

The January signing fired home a 90th-minute equaliser at New Douglas Park as they came from 2-0 down, only for Jamie Walker to head in a stoppage-time winner for the Galabankies and put a huge dent in Accies’ title hopes.

The visitors were in control after a Tommy Goss header in 33 minutes and a thumping volley from Wullie Gibson five minutes into the second half.

Accies pulled one back in 62 minutes when Matty Douglas turned Ben Williamson’s effort into his own net and then Davidson rifled a fine strike into the top corner to seemingly salvage a point.

The hosts hit the post through Williamson in the final minutes and then saw Annan go down the pitch to grab a dramatic winner when Walker headed home Kai Nugent’s cross.

It sparked angry scenes among the home support, as some circled the dugout calling for boss John Rankin to quit with Accies eight points adrift of the Bairns, having played a game more.

Davidson, who joined from Inverness last month, said: “We’ve let a lot of people down so we’ll be looking to put that right against Falkirk.

“The fans expect a lot better from us and we expect a lot better from ourselves. We showed good fight but we know it was for nothing in the end.

“When you score in the 90th minute, you want to push on and find that winner but they’ve hit us with a sucker punch right at the end. At the start of

the day, we wanted three points to put pressure on Falkirk, so it is a must-win game now. The boys are really motivated for that.”

The win is huge for ninth-place Annan – now 15 points clear of bottom side Edinburgh City – and gives them hope of catching Stirling Albion, who are within seven points.

Boss Peter Murphy said: “This could change the dynamic of our season. It was unbelievable.”

Montrose skipper Paul Watson scored twice in the first 25 minutes with stopper Aidan Quinn adding No.3 just before half-time to defeat Edinburgh City 3-0.

Taylor Steven grabbed the only goal as Alloa ran out 1-0 derby day winners over Stirling Albion.

Queen of the South were held to a goalless draw at Kelty Hearts despite Gavin Reilly and Joel Mumbongo both rattling the woodwork.
