and the centre-back said: “We thoroughly deserved our semi-final slot with a real professional display.

“My aim when I joined the club was to win trophies and I’m now more hungry than ever. In saying that, it will be a big ask with auchinleck, Johnstone Burgh and arthurlie standing in our way.

“We are still in the West Cup and in contention for the league so we will do our upmost to bring some silverware to the club.

“We haven’t reached this stage since 1976 so we all want to go one better and lift the trophy.”

Darvel opened the scoring after 40 minutes through Syme after lochee had given them some scary moments beforehand.

Delighted Darvel boss Tony Mcinally, who guided Shotts to a famous Scottish cup win 12 years ago, said: “apart from a spell in the first half, we were superb and worthy winners. We can all look forward to the draw and see what it brings up.”

lochee gaffer Dougie Cameron said: “I can’t fault my boys, they gave us everything and we just couldn’t get the breaks.

“We had a spell in the first half where we were on top and we had to score during that period to give ourselves a chance. I’d also like to thank Darvel for their hospitality and wish them all the best in the semis.”
