Adam: We’ll take Hearts from defeat in the Cup

- BY CRAIG SWAN

AIRDRIE skipper Adam Frizzell insists his side will use their harsh Hearts learning curve as a template for future top-flight aspirations.

The Championship outfit saw their Scottish Cup dreams shattered by the in-form Premiership outfit after the 4-1 fifth-round loss.

but Rhys McCabe’s side still have plenty to play for this term with Airdrie still in the Final of the Challenge Cup and also pushing for the play-off spots.

Frizzell says the Hearts education can be of benefit now and in the future as he said: “We can definitely use this experience. you look at the way we play, we try to play total football and I think Hearts did the exact same.

“They’re just that level above, the better team won. If we want to end up in the Premiership, then that’s the level we have to be at every week. So it’s definitely a great experience, it’s a young team and we’ll build from it.

“At the end of the day we’re out of the Cup so it’s back to league business on Saturday. They had four shots in the first half and scored three of them.

“That’s testament to why they are where they are.

“They are the third-best team in the country by a distance at the moment. It was a good test for us. I thought we stuck at it.

“When it goes to three, you could end up five or six. but the boys dug in and we stuck with it until the end.

“It’s going to take a good team to stop Hearts.

“We’re a very young team and we’ll take that test long into their careers. That’s not going to define our season, so it’s back to league business on Saturday.”

Frizzell’s goal was Airdrie’s stand-out moment, but he said: “It’s good, personally, but we lost, so it means nothing.”
