Kane & Co are Sarri sight

German giants rocked in Rome

- BY CARL ASKEW

HARRY KANE couldn’t conquer Rome in a frustrating night for 10-man Bayern Munich as Ciro Immobile’s spot-kick snatched a first-leg advantage for Lazio.

The Bundesliga giants have it all to do in the Bavarian return after Dayot Upamecano’s 67th-minute foul on Gustav Isaksen in the area saw him earn a red card and gift the home side the winning penalty.

Maurizio Sarri’s side are struggling in Serie A, sitting eighth, but he completely outwitted Thomas Tuchel in this battle of the former Chelsea bosses as his side comfortably soaked up Bayern’s pressure before sinking them from 12 yards.

Skipper Immobile celebrated his 34th birthday six days early to score the only goal and they went close to a second late on.

For Kane and Bayern the misery continued after a 3-0 weekend loss to Bayer Leverkusen.

The England striker said: “It’s been a tough week. We started well and had some clear chances – I had one, Jamal Musiala had one, Josh Kimmich had one. Those are big moments which we weren’t able to take.”

Bayern are clearly still suffering from that loss to title rivals Leverkusen when they managed just one effort on goal, their lowest in the Bundesliga for eight years, and all their shots were off target last night.

Kimmich missed from a great chance before Kane shot over as he lent back from seven yards out.

Lazio defended brilliantly and they swamped Bayern all night with Leroy Sane and Kane routinely frustrated.

The Italians sensed they could snatch something in front of their passionate support and Isaksen was denied by Manuel Neuer when he should have scored after being played through by Luis Alberto.

Kane was careless in possession, giving the ball away twice in quick succession, and saw a free-kick hit the Lazio wall to sum up his night.

It went from bad to worse for Bayern midway through the second half when Upamecano was sent off for a rash challenge on Isaksen.

Kimmich was booked for protesting as Bayern lost their leads but a cool Immobile made no mistake.
