REBELS DEMAND LEAGUE SUMMIT
THE Premiership Six last night demanded showdown talks with under-fire SPFL chiefs Murdoch MacLennan and Neil Doncaster.
Rangers have teamed up with bosses from Aberdeen, Livingston, Motherwell, St Johnstone and St Mirren to heap fresh pressure on the league top brass following a row over an independent report into SPFL governance.
And now they want all 42 league clubs to attend a meeting later this month as they seek answers from MacLennan and Doncaster
The six top-flight clubs last week released a statement blasting the executive duo.
They claimed to have “serious concerns” about the executive duo’s tinkering with an investigation carried out by external auditors Henderson Loggie, claiming changes were made to the report before the SPFL board had a chance to meet.
They also felt it was inappropriate that MacLennan had spoken publicly before the SPFL board had met to discuss the report when he released a statement claiming it gave the league’s governance practices a clean bill of health.
The Hampden bosses hit back last Friday as they claimed the six clubs’ letter included a number of “factual inaccuracies.”
But that has failed to settle the argument and now the Premiership sides are demanding face-to-face talks, with all SPFL member outfits invited.
In a joint statement, they said: “Following the clubs’ letter to the SPFL chairman and chief executive, a response was received from the chairman on February 9, 2024.
“On consideration of the chairman’s letter of reply, the clubs believe it to be imperative, in the best interests of transparency and governance, that the chairman and chief executive meet with their shareholders.
“To that end, the clubs have invited the chairman and chief executive to attend a meeting of all member clubs to address the issues around the Independent Governance Review.
“All SPFL member clubs are invited to attend and participate in this meeting, which is to take place at 11am on February 27, 2024.”
