WHEN THE SAINTS GO MARCHING IN..

Brown relishing baptism of fire after arriving on loan in time for big one

JAMES BROWN insists he could not have asked for a better game in which to make his bow as Raith go into a top-of-the-table battle with Dundee United.

The on-loan St Johnstone defender is expected to feature in the televised clash at a packed Stark’s Park after making the switch last week.

Rovers are playing catch-up at the Championship summit after only one victory in their last six outings.

That has left Ian Murray’s side four points behind in second but Brown is desperate to play his part in reviving Rovers’ fortunes.

He said: “These are the games you want to play in. You could be sitting here with not a lot to play for or putting yourself in positions like this, which is what you want.

“It’s a short career and you want to be fighting at the right end for titles. On a personal note, it is a great game to come and be involved in.”

Brown fell out of favour under Craig Levein at McDiarmid and had no qualms about stepping down a division.

And he insists the settling- in process has been aided by familiar faces in the dressing room.

He added: “Zak Rudden was with us at St Johnstone, I know him and Shaun Byrne.

“I messaged Shaun before I came and asked a few questions. He had nothing but good things to say about the club. He helped sell it.”

Rovers have managed only one clean sheet in their last 12 games but Brown says he can help prop up the rearguard.

The 26-year-old added: “I pride myself on defending, first and foremost. I can go forward but I take joy in getting the better of my direct opponent.”
