Tragic Fawziyah’s family accuse in-laws of showing no remorse
THE father of a man who murdered his pregnant wife complained about being left out of pocket after paying thousands for her engagement ring, a TV documentary will show.
Fawziyah Javed and her unborn child died when she was attacked by Kashif Anwar at Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh during a weekend break in 2021.
The trial of the 31-year-old’s husband heard that, as she lay critically injured at the foot of the cliff, she told a passer-by: “Don’t let my husband near me, he pushed me.”
The case is the subject of a new two-part Channel 4 documentary called The Push.
Anwar, 29, of Leeds, was found guilty of the murder and ordered to serve at least 20 years behind bars.
His father Mohammed claimed he had paid £6300 for a diamond ring for their engagement.
In an interview filmed at Edinburgh High Court during the murder trial, he moaned that the ring had not been returned to him by police.
He also claimed Fawziyah had become his “daughter” after marrying his son and insisted they were a happy couple.
He said: “When Kashif got engaged, she says, ‘Kashif, I want a diamond ring’.
“You know how much that cost me? £6300. I haven’t got it back yet from police.” He added: “They were a very weDDing Fawziyah and Anwar happy couple. Every family has ups and downs.
“If she wasn’t happy and she was ending the relationship, why did she come to Scotland?
“When she fell, me and my wife cried a lot. She was our daughter, not their daughter.”
In the documentary, Fawziyah’s family condemned Anwar’s family for showing no remorse for what he had done.
Her mother Yasmin said: “His parents have never said how heartbroken they are, they have never shown any remorse.
“In fact they have just added to our pain.”
The Push will air on Channel 4 tomorrow and Monday at 9pm.
