Injuries taking the Mick at Kilby

-

EAST KILBRIDE manager Mick Kennedy says his side have been plagued by injuries in the last few weeks with five defenders out.

The Kilby gaffer, whose team got through 3-2 against Ashfield to reach the semifinals of the South Region Challenge Cup, admits it has been a case of patch-up jobs during the difficult time.

Kennedy’s boys are also 12 points clear in the league and the gaffer said: “We’ve got five defenders out and we probably struggled a bit against Ashfield. It wasn’t a great game but I’m just happy we’re in the next round.

“We’ve got to focus on the next game, although we’ve got a lot to play for with two cups and the league.

“We don’t want to get too carried away. We’ve got so many injuries, it’s a case of patching teams together.

“But, to be fair to the boys, they’re bonding through it.

“It’s really difficult just now but the only benefit is that as we get the boys back, we will get stronger.”

Kilby’s semi-final rivals will be Tranent who beat Kilwinning Rangers 3-0.

Cumbernauld Colts saw off Threave Rovers 3-0.

In the league, Bo’ness United hit a high five to move up to third place by thrashing Gala Fairydean Rovers 5-1. They are level with Cumbernauld on goal difference after a storming four-goal first half.

They got a dream start with a first-minute goal from Ryan Porteous before Fin Malcolm added No.2 in the 19th minute.

Kieran Mitchell made it 3-0 in the 31st minute before Porteous rattled in his second of the afternoon.

Three minutes into the second half the home side were 5-0 up and cruising thanks to Jamie Hamilton.

And although Lwendo Kazoka got a 65th-minute consolation goal, there was no way back for Rovers.

Albion Rovers are up to ninth after a 1-0 win over Linlithgow Rose thanks to a Bright Prince goal.

Cowdenbeath and Stirling Uni fought out a 2-2 draw, with Jack Docherty getting both for the Scholars.

Matthew McDonald and Daryl Healy scored for the Blue Brazil, who ended the game with 10 men after Jack Denham was shown a straight red in the 65th minute.
