Boss nips it in the Bud to lift Lewis

- BY CRAIG SWAN

LEWIS JAMIESON admits he’s a transformed character after a harsh talk from Stephen Robinson saved his St Mirren career.

The 21-year-old is savouring his “breakthrough year” having been hauled back from the brink by the Buddies boss.

Jamieson confessed his petulance was among the issues which led to Robinson sitting him down and explaining what was needed to succeed at Saints.

The youngster, who had loan spells at Clyde, Inverness and Airdrie, took the words on board and is now a key part of the manager’s set-up.

Jamieson said: “The gaffer basically gave me the harsh reality of it. He told me what I had to do to become and stay a footballer.

“I had to change quickly. There were times when I was a bit petulant, maybe overlooking things as well. I wasn’t realising what I was doing that looked bad. I felt they were normal but the gaffer told me it didn’t look right.

“He gave me that insight and now I’ve been able to fix it. Things like throwing my hands in the air, stuff like that.

“I came back to St Mirren last January (from Airdrie) and it was around last February he sat me down and told me what I needed to do to stay here and improve myself.

“It was an overnight change, it had to be done and I’m glad he gave me that talk. Now I can look forward to what’s ahead.

“I already look back at what I used to be like compared to now and I honestly don’t know how anybody put up with me!

“I’m glad he gave me that talk and, maybe in 10 or 15 years, I’ll look back at that as the turning point in my career. I’m already seeing the rewards. This has been my breakthrough season, I’d say.

“I’ve not been content with how I’ve been playing but the gaffer has been happy with me and has been putting a lot of faith in me. That’s all I can really ask for now.”
