Stag do attack brain damage
Doorman jailed for knocking reveller out
A SCOT on a stag do was left with a brain injury after being knocked unconscious by a doorman.
Attacker Craig Lamarque, who was off-duty, struck “completely defenceless” Mark Sneddon moments after he had been chucked out of a bar.
He was said to have acted as a peacemaker before punching the Scot in the face, causing him to fall and fracture his skull. The dad of two, of Bootle, was jailed for 18 months.
Liverpool Crown Court heard Mark had been visiting the city for the week-end with friends for a stag do. The Scots group had been inside Woody’s Sports and Karaoke Bar before they were chucked out.
The court heard how Mark had been “drunk and being a bit of a nuisance” as well as acting “aggressively” with others in his group.
Kate Morley, prosecuting, described how he was asked to leave and was “palmed to the floor” by security staff member Will Peters who he reacted to.
At this, Lamarque, 35, a door supervisor at a neighbouring bar who was not on shift, “violently and forcefully” punched the complainant.
The incident was captured on CCTV, with this footage showing the victim was facing away from him at the time and had his hands by his side.
Mark fell backwards and banged his head on the ground, losing consciousness before two off-duty nurses, came to his aid.
He was taken to hospital and was found to have suffered a “traumatic head injury” including a 4 to 5cm cut to the back of his head, a fractured skull and left eye and bleeding and bruising to the brain.
A statement was read on his behalf. Mark, who has no recollection of the night, said his “life was completely changed” after he spent eight days in hospital, was unable to eat for four weeks and “lost a year of his life going through rehabilitation”.
The self-employed man was also off work for seven months and had to lay off employees. His statement also outlined how he had lost all of his savings and ended up in debt, and can no longer play football.
