RECORD AIN’T LOST ON ME

Doc’s unbeaten as skipper but title only cure in mind

- SCOTT BURNS

ROSS DOCHERTY hopes to continue being a lucky Championship charm – only because it will mean Dundee United will strike top-flight fortune.

The skipper can boast an impressive record of not having lost a league game he’s played in this season.

Arbroath’s visit could see his streak hit 14 as United look to build on the fourpoint lead they have carved out, having played a game more than Raith.

On keeping the record going, the 31-year-old said: “it would be amazing.

“If it were to happen and if we could win as many games as we can, it would stand us in good stead to go up and win the league. That is the main aim.

“I am not bothered about my record because it is all about the team.

“The boys have been brilliant when i have been out. it is frustrating when i haven’t been playing.

“It is just about trying to get consistency and a run of games now. i am here to help and be a good guy when i am playing.”

The skipper managed to get himself back from injury to help the Terrors collect four points from a possible six this past week.

His presence has been there for all to see in getting a point away to former club Partick Thistle and then a win over play-off hopefuls Morton. United may have beaten the Lichties three times this term with an aggregate score of 13-0 but a warning shot was fired with last week’s come-frombehind victory over Rovers.

Docherty said: “We were watching that game with an eye on Raith Rovers. it was a good result for them and us at the top end of the table. They have had a few boys out who have come back and we know it’s going to be a difficult game.

“hopefully, we can match them. They’ll have a bit of a bounce after coming back from two down and maybe there will be a resurgence to keep themselves up.”

Arbroath are seven points adrift with 30 still to play for and boss Jim Mcintyre said: “We need around five wins to have any chance of staying in the championship.

“We need to try to build a bit of momentum, go to a tough venue against a good side and a big challenge lies ahead. But the boys have been positive.

“Results haven’t always gone our way, the injury situation was well documented but it’s important we stay positive.

“Nobody is getting carried away. We need to show a bit of consistency that we’ve not been able to do.”
