Lions need to make it Count like crazy day

- BY MICHAEL GANNON

STEPHEN KELLY was with the Ross County cup shock troops who didn’t park the bus at Parkhead – they hid on it instead.

The livi midfielder was involved as the Staggies dumped Celts out of the league Cup in 2020 – when fans were shut out due to Covid.

The result proved to be the final straw for angry Celtic fans and it sparked ugly scenes outside the front of Parkhead with crash barriers and missiles flying around.

Kelly was safely on the team coach while punters were losing their marbles.

And while he’s hoping to avoid similar chaos this time, he’d love to create more shockwaves in Glasgow’s East End with livi.

The midfielder said: “We were sitting on the bus, waiting to go home. It was during Covid when there were no fans in the stadium.

“All the Celtic fans were all outside waiting.

“It was mad, to be honest. We were OK as we were out of the road of their bus. It was a strange atmosphere, even after the final whistle – probably because there were no fans.

“It probably didn’t make it feel as big an achievement as it was at the time without the supporters. But it’s always something all the players involved can look back on fondly.”

Kelly has the blueprint to get a result at Celtic Park but it doesn’t make the task any easier.

He said: “You need to give them respect out of possession but the main thing is you need to carry a threat yourself.

“The first goal is massive. The first goal against Celtic is so important at home or away. The longer you can keep it 0-0, or even be one down, you’ve still always got a chance.”
