Euan: It’d be champion to make history

- John Docherty

EUAN O’REILLY insists Stenhousemuir are not getting carried away in their bid to make history.

With eight games left the Warriors’ destiny is firmly in their own hands, sitting 15 points clear at the top as they chase the club’s first ever title.

But O’Reilly claims none of the players are looking too far ahead.

Stenny had to settle for a share of the spoils against promotion hopefuls Spartans on Saturday, with Ross Meechan coming the closest to winning it when his effort hit the bar late on.

O’Reilly said: “We are trying not to get too ahead of ourselves.

“We know we have a good lead at the top of the table and want to finish the league as champions.

“It’s an old cliche but we need to take it each game as it comes and hopefully, we can keep ticking off the games.

“Winning the first league title in Stenhousemuir’s history would be an unbelievable achievement for all the boys.

“But there is still work to be done and we are just concentrating on Saturday’s match at Forfar, which is going to be tough.

“I thought we were probably just a bit off it against Spartans but at the end of the day it’s not a bad result for us.

“We always want to win our home games, but it’s a good one to tick off.”

Elsewhere, Nathan Austin hit a 93rd minute winner as East Fife edged out Dumbarton 3-2 at Bayview.

The striker gave his side a third minute lead but

second-half goals from Finlay Gray and James Hilton looked to have Sons in control.

Brian Easton headed the Fifers’ level, though, before Austin grabbed the win at the death.

Clyde slipped six points adrift at the bottom after losing 2-1 at Forfar.

Liam Scullion put the Bully Wee ahead, but Rayan Mohammed and Matty Allan struck to give Forfar a comeback win.

Elgin City maintained their strong home form with a 1-0 victory over Bonnyrigg Rose, thanks to a cushioned volley by Michael Dangan just after the hour mark.

Peterhead jumped into second spot after beating Stranraer 2-0 at Balmoor.

Conor O’Keefe fired the Blue Toon ahead then turned provider for Kieran Shanks to volley in their second before half-time.
