Community councillor behind bus campaign accused of joining extremist group and supporting the Nazis

-

A COMMUNITY councillor has been exposed as a rightwing online hate peddler.

Jamie Brown, chair of Invergowrie and Kingoodie Community Council near Dundee, has been accused by anti-racism group Hope Not Hate of being part of the Homeland Party.

It has encouraged its members to infiltrate parish and community councils.

Brown, a Post Office worker, previously went by the online pen name “Mean Peem”.

As a community councillor, he campaigned against planned bus cuts in rural Perthshire.

The Homeland Party was formed as a splinter group from the Patriotic Alternative, the UK’s most active fascist group.

Hope Not Hate said he had engaged in Holocaust denial and praised Nazis on an anti-vaccine group on Telegram.

Brown wrote: “The Nazis didn’t ‘wipe out all culture’, that was what the allies did when they firebox [sic] education the museums and art galleries of Dresden. The 3rd reich had nothing but respect for classic European culture.

“They destroyed subversive Communist filth, they burned down Magnus Hirschfields sex change institute and the disgusting nonsense they found within. You’re complaining about that?”

The previous year, Brown posted a photo of The Culture of Critique by anti-Semite Kevin MacDonald. And In 2022, he said of Edward I, who issued the Edict of Expulsion banishing all Jews from England: “Yes he was the Hammer of the Scots but he also expelled a certain tribe.”

David Lawrence, of Hope Not Hate, said: “Brown is an extreme individual who is trying to hide true views in order to work his way into Dundee’s community politics. This is the MO of the Homeland Party, the fascist group to which Brown belongs.

“Brown is deeply antisemitic and has spoken positively of Hitler’s Germany.

“However, people like Brown try to pose as local champions by latching on to issues with popular support, such as pushing back against bus cuts.

“In reality, Brown is using his position to establish power at the local level whilst covering up his hateful views.”

Brown first came to Hope Not Hate’s attention in 2020 when he tried to “groyp” actress Danniella Westbrook by tricking her into saying a far-right slogan on video stream, a tactic of the farright in the Covid lockdowns.

Homeland was able to successfully register as a political party last month. PA has been denied official party status.

Listing its official HQ in Kirknewton, West Lothian, Homeland is now attempting to downplay its extremist politics.

We previously exposed other community councillors affiliated with the group, including

Simon Crane on East Calder and District Community Council and David Gardner on Forfar Community Council.

Brown denied being fascist and called the claims a coordinated campaign “to attack the character of people who stand up against the establishment”.

He added: “It’s no surprise that as soon as I’ve reintroduced local democracy, and demanded in a public meeting that politicians do more to earn their generous salaries, that a discredited far-left group from London has suddenly decided to do a hit-piece filled with lies.

“They call the Homeland Party fascist but will never define it, and don’t see the irony when their staff advocate for violence against anyone with a different opinion.

“We are genuine Nationalists who have a disdain for fascism.”

Invergowrie and Kingoodie Community Council said Brown is a “much respected community campaigner who has never bought party politics into the council”.”
