Gunners to battle Kane and Bayern

- BY ANDY DUNN

ARSENAL will have to overcome two of their biggest tormentors if they are to keep their Champions League dream alive.

Mikel Arteta’s side will face Bayern Munich and Harry Kane in the quarter-finals while champions Manchester City have been given a blockbuster rematch with Real Madrid.

The last time Arsenal and Bayern met in 2017, the Germans humiliated the Gunners, winning their last-16 tie 10-2 on aggregate.

And Kane returns to north London, looking to add to his tally of 14 goals in 19 games against his old enemy.

The England captain admitted this season that his dream was to win the Champions League at Wembley on June 1 and Euro 2024 in Berlin on July 14.

It would be even sweeter for Tottenham’s record scorer if he could inflict more misery on Arsenal but the winners of the clash will face a stern semi-final challenge against City or Real.

“It’s a bit like tradition,” said Pep Guardiola. “Three years in a row playing the king of the competition. It is what it is. Hopefully, we can have a good moment.”

Kane will not be the only Spurs player coming back to north London and Eric Dier, on loan in Munich, said: “It’s special for me to return to England … and to North London, of all places. It’s a great opportunity for us to show our quality at the highest level.”

In the two other quarter-finals, Paris St Germain and Atletico Madrid take on Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund respectively.

Liverpool will play Atalanta in the last eight of the Europa League - with a clash against Benfica or Marseille the prize. The winners of Bayer Leverkusen versus West Ham will face AC Milan or Roma.
