This year’s competitive stars get baking for charity
Channel 4’s The Great Celebrity bake Off For stand up To Cancer is back with a slew of celebrity bakers – but just because it’s all for charity doesn’t mean the competition isn’t fierce.
Week one sees Spencer Matthews, Jodie Whittaker, Paloma Faith and Munya Chawawa baking for Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, while Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond host.
Spread over four weeks, viewers will also see Danny Dyer, Rhod Gilbert, Yinka Bokinni, Leigh Francis, David O’Doherty, Oti Mabuse, Gabby Logan, Suzi Ruffell, Dermot O’Leary, Greg James, Fern Brady and Mel B, the Reverend Richard Coles, Sara Cox, Joe Locke and Adam Hills join the line-up.
Former Made In Chelsea star Spencer said: “I felt proud to be included in the Stand Up To Cancer line-up because it’s been such a good cause and hopefully we’re able to raise some money. You’d be hard-pressed to find a family that hasn’t been affected by cancer. My uncle died of cancer. My dad’s brother Bob. I was very young when this happened but cancer affects so many millions of people. “You can’t pass up the opportunity to help when the cause is so phenomenal.” Spencer claims he isn’t a natural baker but he did make the final of Celebrity MasterChef in 2018 and he has a deeply competitive streak. “I was baking chocolate fondants very late into the night just before the finals,” he said. He also bakes at home with his wife, Vogue Williams, and their three children. “We make muffins and cookies. Am I a skilled baker? No, not really. I’d be nowhere without a recipe.”
