Stacey stays the night

STACEY DOOLEY SLEEPS OVER USA sunday, 9pm, on W and UKTV Play

-

Stacey Dooley is flying back to the States for another instalment of her Sleeps Over USA series – but this time, she’s also taking daughter Minnie.

The TV presenter is stopping by America’s most interesting homes for the W show’s return visit as she explores the extremes of US culture. From a legal brothel in Nevada to a family of Mormon polygamists, Stacey explores the ups and downs of her hosts’ way of living.

While Stacey’s partner, ex-Strictly Come Dancing pro Kevin Clifton, looked after Minnie away from set, Stacey admitted that fitting in breastfeeding sessions outside of filming could be hectic.

“Kev and Minnie were in America at the same time for this series, obviously not on location but nearby so I was able to see them in between shoots,” she said. “Minnie’s still on the boob – so there’s a lot of juggling that goes into making these docs.”

Across the three new episodes, Stacey shares mealtimes, activities and celebrations with her hosts.

Her third visit was to the home of a polygamist family in South Dakota led by husband Jeff – who was in the process of recruiting another wife from Luton.

“It was a wild moment to encounter. We grew up in a similar part of Luton, it was just completely bonkers!” said Stacey.

“She said she was a single mum and felt like she’d been let down repeatedly by men in her life. So the appeal for her was more about having sister wives to help expand the family.”

Despite the big brood, Stacey admitted she had the best night’s sleep out in the American countryside. “I really lucked out on this visit, as they put me up in a little treehouse that Jeff had built. It was quite idyllic because there was nothing for miles.

“It was completely silent. Jeff said there are bears in the woods and it gets pitch black at night.

“I was armed with this battery light for my walks back to the treehouse – and I was terrified I’d encounter something!”
