On the team plane Or in my pal’s car
Tommy’s going to the Euros any way he can
TOMMY CONWAY already has his Scotland Euro 2024 spot booked... in the back seat of Bristol City kitman Scott Murray’s motor.
But that is only plan B for his Germany dream because the under-21s striker hasn’t given up hope of driving his way into Steve Clarke’s A team.
the Ashton Gate goal-getter might sound more cockney rebel than tartan Army but don’t be fooled.
through his late grandfather Danny – who hailed from Stirling – and dad Joe, he is a passionate Scotland fan.
And the 21-year-old insists he will be in Germany by hook or by crook.
City kitman Murray is a legend at the Championship club after two spells as a player but has never lost touch with his Fraserburgh roots.
And as Conway prepares for a huge under-21 qualifier against Kazakhstan tomorrow night, he revealed he’ll be among RoaD TRiP Kitman Murray the Scotland supporters if the call doesn’t come from Clarke.
He said: “Exactly... I’ll be out on the streets singing the songs!
“Scott’s driving from Bristol to Germany with his brother.
“If I’m not going, I said I’d be jumping in with him.
“It’ll be class. He was thinking I’d be the man to get the tickets – I said I hoped I could!” Conway has nine goals for City this season, including two that helped dump West Ham out of the FA Cup. He also netted in his last outing for the under-21s against norway last summer. He added: “you can only get into the squad by doing well at club level. If I got the call, then great – it’d be a proud moment. “But if not, it won’t be the end of the world. there will be plentymore tournaments in the future. “you have to allow yourself to dream. “that’s what it’s all about. Dreams come true. If it’s not this one, then it’s the next one. Let’s dream big, let’s take Scotland to the World Cup and Euros, and let’s do well in it.”
Conway’s first goal for Scot Gemmill’s under-21s coincided with him being handed the captain’s armband in last June’s 1-1 draw with norway.
It was a proud moment, as were those goals that dumped the Hammers in January.
His old man filmed the Bristol City fans belting out the song in his name to the sound of the Human League’s “Don’t you Want Me” after that one.
And Conway would love to give the tartan Army reason to sing too.
He said: “Scoring at West Ham was crazy. We had both tiers – 9000 fans. there were 60,000odd in there.
“I remember looking at the stand and it was going mental.
“If I could do that in a Scotland shirt, it would be even more special.”
Rangers midfielder Cole McKinnon has joined Conway in the squad after Josh Mulligan, Kai Fotheringham and Ben McPherson all withdrew.
