Dying Ian’s £1m lottery win
Couple to buy bungalow and go on spending spree
A WOMAN who cares for her terminally ill husband has told of their joy after they landed a £1million lottery jackpot.
Marlyn and Ian Anderson plan to buy a bungalow to allow them to spend their remaining time together in comfort. The couple, from Stirling, have been married for 32 years but faced difficulties since Ian, 77, was diagnosed with pleural plaques and pulmonary fibrosis. He requires round the clock oxygen for the condition which he believes was linked to exposure to asbestos in the construction industry. They had previously lived life to the full and enjoyed travelling to Australia and other foreign holidays. Mum-of-two Marlyn, 70, says she is planning a spending spree to help Ian.
She said: “This win couldn’t have come at a better time. It’ll ensure Ian can have the very best quality of life in the time he has left.
“As a result of Ian’s condition he is unable to get upstairs. His health is deteriorating, and he struggles to breathe so we currently have our living room set up like a bedsit. We have no other option.
“Buying a bungalow, and I think I have seen one already, will allow Ian to have his own bedroom and for us to have a sitting room too, all on one level. This will be so special as it is something we haven’t been able to do for such a long time. He will be able to live the rest of his life in comfort.”
Grandmother Marlyn only put on the Euro-Millions Lucky Dip ticket this month when she realised she had just £4.90 left in her National Lottery online account.
She scooped the UK Millionaire Maker jackpot when she matched the winning code.
Marlyn added: “I initially thought I had won £1000 and then I started to count the zeros. I actually don’t think the news has fully sunk in yet.
“Neither Ian nor I can believe it. It still all seems very surreal. There are no other words to describe what we are going through right now.”
