Mackie: Title party won’t stop our effort

- BY ALAN ROBERTSON

SEAN MACKIE took days to discover he’d been pranked by a Falkirk pal yet knows it will only take seconds today to figure out if a title party is on.

But even if the Bairns can pop the champage, Mackie insists he and his team-mates won’t put their feet up – especially when he’s after a new deal.

Should Hamilton fail to win on the road at cove then victory over bottom side edinburgh city would seal the league crown with six games to spare.

In a candid admission, former Hibs midfielder Mackie says he goes into every campaign expecting an injury given the torrid time he’s had.

But having started three of their last six games, he’s determined to impress John McGlynn and preserve the unbeaten league status Falkirk eyes are fixed on.

Mackie, who is out of contract in the summer, said: “if you do hear a roar, you’ll know the reason! But we have to be professional, treat edinburgh as we would any other team, perform and win.

“The injuries have been hard. i feel every year there is something that happens, you get to the stage where you’re waiting for it to happen. This year it was the same. i had a good pre-season and then the second Betfred cup game i play a ball down the line and my hamstring goes. you just think, ‘ah... same again.’ “i’ve started three games now since the gaffer has been rotating the team a little bit and starting to feel much better. i feel like myself again, which is good.

“Everything we’ve been working on, the gaffer is trying to get across to us, it is all clicking together. it’s a really good group of boys in that changing room.”

On the characters within it, he added: “oh, callumn (Morrison) ... he chucked a creme egg in my trackie hood on the Tuesday night the other week and i didn’t find it till the Saturday. it was all smashed up, i’m still to get him back for that!”

As cove look to get back in the play-off places, former Bairns defender Michael Doyle said: “if we keep within touching distance, we get players back at the right time, there is no reason why you can’t go and have a successful season.”

While admitting his old club deserve success, he laughed and added: “See winning through the play-offs, it’s actually better than winning the league – you have a better time!”
