Kev: We know we need to bounce back from Pars... we were first to criticise ourselves

- BY SCOTT BURNS

DUNDEE UTD v INVERNESS CT KEVIN HOLT has claimed Dundee United’s players are their own biggest critics and have spent the past week taking a long, hard look at themselves.

Now all their eyes are fixed on extending United’s advantage at the top of the Championship.

United were beaten 3-1 at Dunfermline last week but are looking to get back on track with a home win over Inverness.

“The boys are honest and after a bad result the first people who criticise are ourselves,” stopper Holt admitted. “We know last Friday wasn’t good enough and this weekend is a chance to bounce back from that.

“We have generally done that after a setback and we are determined to do it again.

“We took a good look at ourselves over the weekend, came back in on Monday and got focused on Inverness.

“It’s another huge game, there are seven matches to go but we have to just focus on one at a time.” United have led the league for most of the season but Holt is well aware there is still room for improvement, especially when it comes to their Tannadice form.

“One thing we haven’t done enough of this season is win at home so that needs to change,” the defender said.

“We just need to strip it back, get back to what we’re good at and hopefully get the win.

“We want to start every game at home on the front foot, get our attacking players on the ball and let them do their thing.

“Not winning enough home games isn’t down to a lack of trying or anything.

“But we know the first goal is crucial, if you get that then those are the occasions we’ve been able to kick on and get two or three.

“So we have to start well, that’s so important.”

Inverness loanee Cammy Kerr admits the Dundee diehard in him is relishing today’s trip to Tannadice – and the chance to wind up some of his closest pals.

The 28-year-old said: “It’s the first time I have played Dundee United since being at Inverness.

“I’m buzzing for it. I have played in Dundee derbies and I’ve been lucky enough to win some – and unlucky enough to be on the receiving end of defeats as well.

“To be a fan of the team across the road is one thing but to go and play against them is always something you look to relish in a game of football – no matter what team you are with.”

Kerr insists there is no added pressure as his team seek only a second win in eight league games in their fight against relegation.

He added: “We know the position we are in but we are under no illusions that every game is just as tough.

“It’s about how we put our own stamp on the match.

“We are going to have to go there and frustrate them.”
