We can join legends Rae and Roughie

- BY ALISON MCCONNELL

CARA HeNDeRSON has revealed how a pep talk from Partick Thistle legends Alan Rough and Alex Rae has set Jags women up for tomorrow’s Sky Sports Cup Final.

Brian Graham’s side have made history by becoming the first Thistle team to make it to a cup final since 1971, when Rough and Rae helped them stun Celtic 4-1 in the League Cup Final.

Henderson shared a hospitality table with the duo recently and they offered the midfielder a few motivational tips ahead of the Tynecastle showpiece against Rangers.

She said: “I have watched highlights of that final and felt really lucky to be sitting with Alan and Alex a few weeks back.

“They had some really brilliant anecdotes about that day. No one fancied them to beat Celtic and they are still revered as legends for what they achieved that day.

“Now it is a real chance for us to go and do something similar.

“What was amazing for me was how supportive they are of the women’s team. They were genuinely enthused by the fact we are in this position and it would be amazing to follow in those kind of footsteps.

“We just want to make sure we do ourselves justice and play to the levels we know we can.

“I’d love to lift the trophy not just for me and for my team but for everyone behind the scenes who has helped to get us here.”

Rangers midfielder Chelsea Cornet insists Jo Potter’s side have their sights on a clean sweep.

She said: “Players love cup finals. We’re all buzzing and looking forward to it.

“We want to retain the cup. To get our hands on the first piece of silverware that is available would be unbelievable.

“We don’t look too far ahead but we know that [a domestic Treble] is within our grasp.”

Meanwhile, Jags boss Graham will be free to lead his side out for the final.

He was sent off last weekend in the SWPL but has appealed so can take charge of the side tomorrow.

Tickets for the final are available right up until the 1.30pm kick-off.
