AGITATION over VAR has spiked in recent days with the fallout from big calls sparking major actions.
Referees chief Crawford Allen announcing he’s to step down from his position at the end of the season has been followed by clubs hitting out.
Motherwell issued a strongly-worded statement earlier this week confirming they had gone to the governing body over a number of discrepancies with VAR and St Johnstone have added their voice.
Clubs across the country have been left raging at a variety of calls this term and Record Sport columnist Barry Ferguson spoke out in the hope a big on-screen shout does not play a decisive role in the destination of the title.
But Neil Renton, leith, said: “I had to laugh at the former Rangers captain being worried about VAR impacting the title race. The only concern is which referee will be awarded Ibrox player of the season.”
Helen Mclean, inverness, added: “Barry must be at the wind-up saying VAR could end up deciding the destination of the title – their main rivals have just been deprived of three points due to laughable use of VAR. You’re way too late, Barry.”
Peter lyons, Blantyre, said: “Nearly choked on my coffee after Ferguson saying a bad VAR call could cost either of the Glasgow teams. It might very well have happened. Hearts v Celtic, anyone? Thankfully the league is still in Celtic’s hands.”
But Robert cochrane, Ravenscraig, agreed with Ferguson and said: “He’s right about all of this. Silly decisions and interventions from VAR have caused chaos all season and it’s going to come to a head at a massive moment in the campaign.”
John Melrose, edinburgh, said: “The Rangers
