AWAY WITH WORDS

Moult makes his point and says United will do their talking on pitch against Rovers

- SCOTT BURNS AT TANNADICE

RAITH have tried to noise things up in the Championship title race but Louis Moult insists Dundee United aim to do their talking on the pitch this weekend.

The two will go head-to-head in the top of the table clash at Tannadice, with United having a one-point advantage although Rovers have a game-in-hand.

Stark’s Park boss Ian Murray tried to stir the pot last week by claiming their rivals were “rattled’ because they refused to give them more away tickets for the game.

Moult said: “It’s not up to us to get involved in anything like that, we have to just take care of things on the football pitch.

“We haven’t done that against Raith this season or in enough home games.

“I enjoy the expectation and pressure, I came here for it. I could have stayed down south, played in League Two. But I wanted to sign for a club where it means something and which is going somewhere.

“We have a lot of young players and the experienced ones like myself have to help them.

“We have to stick together and that means not getting too high when you win or too low when you lose. It’s a cliche but we have to stay levelheaded and calm.

“We’re aware there’s six games remaining and we have to win more games, it’s as simple as that.

“We came away with a point and now we have to take the game to Raith Rovers next week.”

United were left frustrated they’d failed to secure all three points.

Liam Grimshaw tried to nick a ball but Aribim Pepple got in behind him. His cross was pushed out by Jack Walton but Wallace Duffy netted.

Jim Goodwin, annoyed his side had gifted another cheap goal, brought on Moult at the start of the second period – and he levelled with a wonder shot from about 40 yards.

Inverness felt there was a foul in the build-up but Moult reckons it probably wasn’t even his top goal.

The former Motherwell star said: “It would definitely be in my top three goals. I’m delighted to have scored the goal but I have mixed emotions

because on one hand it’s one of the best goals of my career but I’m also disappointed we didn’t win the game. That’s taken the shine off it a bit.

“The ball was looping, it stuck in the air so I leaned in, used my body and intelligence and thought I was just going to hit it.

“It was one of those which either goes up into the stand or it goes in but the contact was good and it felt nice coming off my laces. So I was watching it thinking it had a chance

but then thought, ‘oh no, don’t hit the crossbar and let the keeper catch it’.”

United – who had Kevin Holt limp off in the 20th minute with a knee injury – had chances after that but couldn’t get a winner. Declan Gallagher came closest when he hit the woodwork with a shot.

They must deliver this weekend and will know they’ll only have themselves to blame if they don’t.

Inverness, struggling at the wrong end of the table and still in the

relegation play-off spot, are away to Partick Thistle this weekend. And Mark Ridgers reckons that’s good because Caley Thistle’s problems have been at home this season.

The Inverness keeper said: “We are the third-best team form-wise away from home. At home has really killed us. That is where we are at just now because of our home form. It hasn’t been good enough.

“It was a good point at Dundee United but we need to start winning games to get out of the bottom two. We’ve lost to Arbroath, Queen’s Park and Ayr the other week.

“We’re losing to teams around us and that’s put us in the position we’re in.

“We went to Morton, when they were on a run and beat them. We know what to do to get points and wins away but our home form has been really poor.”
