KYLE’S WHIPPET INTO SHAPE

Dog helps Rowe return to fold

- BY GRAEME MACPHERSON

KYLE ROWE reckons his Scotland dream is back on track after starring in the Six Nations.

The Glasgow winger made his international debut in Argentina in 2022 – only to pick up a knee injury in the same match that kept him out for a year.

But his form for Warriors this season helped him fight his way back into Gregor Townsend’s squad.

And after starting the first two games against Wales and France, Rowe feels like he’s a proper part of it once more.

He said: “I went into the Six Nations not really expecting anything. And then when you play the first two games you’re like, ‘Right, I should be involved every week’.”

Rowe returns for Glasgow at Scarlets tomorrow night after enjoying some down time with his whippet, Maggie. He added: “The Six Nations is taxing on the body but as it’s Test matches it’s taxing on the mind as well.

“It was more mentally trying to get away and switch off basically. My dog does a lot of that for me.”

● Edinburgh enforcer Jamie Hodgson hopes history will repeat itself tomorrow when his team take on the Sharks in Durban.

Two years ago, the capital club became the first European team to win in South Africa in the URC.

And lock-forward Hodgson, who played in that 21-5 victory, reckons it can inspire his side.

He said: “That was one of the more memorable away victories that we’ve had in the last two or three years.

“So that was massive and potentially something at the time that we didn’t expect. Now we’re in a much different headspace and we come over and expect to win these games.”
