Jim: Beeb’s loss to miss our clash

- By SCOTT BURNS

DUNDEE UNITED boss Jim Goodwin believes Scottish football has missed a trick by not televising their topof-the-table-clash with Raith.

BBC Scotland has decided to show ayr v airdrie tonight instead and the good thing in Goodwin’s opinion is their clash remains a 3pm kick-off tomorrow.

The issue the broadcasters have is they have an agreement for a maximum number of home games per Championship club and they are keeping one tannadice game up their sleeve for the title run-in.

Goodwin said: “I know the BBC have a certain number of games that they can choose over the course of a season.

“It would have been a good one for TV.

“No doubt it would have been a great advert for the Championship – two good, attacking sides.

“It would have been a good game to broadcast but it is what it is.

“I prefer to have it on a Saturday at 3 o’clock anyway.”

Rovers have been labelled as the surprise package in the Championship, as they have pushed United all the way and are just a point behind with a game in hand.

Goodwin, however, reckons with the increased investment that the new owners have put in since the summer they were always going to be a force.

He said: “Raith have done brilliantly, recruited really well and with a good injection of finance. they’ve been able to bring in a good quality of player.

“We were always going to be everybody’s favourites because of the size of the club. Raith are no mugs.

“We didn’t underestimate them. I saw the players they were signing, the increase in their budget and I knew they would be a decent team.”
