Burrows: We’ll take time to get right boss

now. but what I would say, and what I want to emphasise, is that it’s absolutely important we get this appointment right rather than done quickly.

“So while this process has gone on longer than anyone hoped or anticipated, the key focus for us is to make sure the appointment is right for the long term.

“Hopefully the process isn’t going to take too much longer.”

Interim boss Peter Leven will stay in charge for the County game ahead of a successor being named.

Aberdeen have come in for criticism from fans after the club claimed a managerial appointment had been close following the hasty departure of interim boss Neil Warnock earlier this month.

burrows said: “When we said that and went public with that, it was on the back of Neil leaving and we thought at that time we were ready to finalise.

“As these things always do, things come along that you need to react to.

“We are still there at that particular point and are still hopeful that the person we’ve earmarked and identified is someone we can appoint to the role very soon.”

Aberdeen have been looking for a permanent boss since barry Robson was sacked in January and many supporters questioned why Warnock, who failed to win a league game, was appointed on a short-term basis.

burrows has defended the club’s stance and admitted they felt it was wrong to jump in while there was an ongoing internal review of the club.

He added: “When barry left, two things were happening – we had the independent auditor report nearing conclusion, so we thought we should leave that to complete.

“The second part was we appointed Neil with the expectation that would run to the end of the season and give us the time for that to complete.

“That would have given us time to go through a robust process and really look under the bonnet of every candidate. but clearly that situation changed after a period of time so we’ve had to react to that.”

Aberdeen spoke to several candidates before they narrowed down their shortlist and burrows insists there has been a high calibre of applicants for the Pittodrie job.

“There is a willingness and a desire from those candidates we have had chats with,” burrows told RedTV.

“Let’s be clear, Aberdeen is an attractive job in Scottish, british and European football terms.

“This is a club who, only a few months ago, was competing in European group stage football.

“It’s a club which has achieved a lot through its history. It’s still a very attractive role for someone.”
