Scott: Arrows can help Jags hit bullseye

- DUNFERMLINE v PARTICK TH ALAN ROBERTSON

LUKE LITTLER wowed in Manchester again this week but there is only one “Luke the Nuke” running the show in Maryhill – even if the nickname wasn’t initially a compliment.

resurgent Scott robinson reckons regular trips to the oche can only help Partick Thistle’s bid to land a play-off promotion checkout after being in the treble bed so long.

robinson, 32, has chipped in with two goals in his last three games while captaining his team-mates off it after the ryder Cup met darts at Firhill.

Cue a throwing dart celebration on scoring these past few weeks as three wins on the trot have seen Kris Doolan’s thirdplaced side arrow in on clinching a top-four spot.

A win at Dunfermline today could carve out an 11-point cushion inside the play-offs with four games to go.

And robinson said: “We have a darts tournament at the club that has been going down brilliantly. It was a ryder Cup theme – I was a captain for the Europeans, Jack mcmillan for the Americans.

“We got to pick nine players each. It went all the way to the death, it was 13-all, so the two captains had to play to decide who won the ryder Cup.

“Thankfully I came out on top and the Europeans won. It took about a week-and-a-half to get finished. It was nip and tuck all the way. We’re going to do it again – the Americans want to get revenge so we have to defend the title.

“‘Luke the nuke’ is actually big Luke McBeth’s nickname because he wasn’t having the best of times to start! But, to be fair, he pulled it out the bag. he was my last pick up, against Danny the kitman, and won.

“It brings all the boys together, it’s a laugh to take the mind away from the seriousness after training.”

robinson’s debut campaign at Firhill has been plagued by injuries. But after starting the Jags’ last six games, the attacker has been awarded player of the month, as voted by the fans.

He added: “This game is massive. If we can get three points, I think we’ll be there.”

James McPake hopes to hail a victory over the Jags today rather than rant about one.

The Dunfermline boss was “emotional” after watching his team scrape a 3-2 win at Arbroath after being 3-0 up.

McPake, manager of the month for march, added: “The big thing is we’ve won three in a row – and we’re desperate to make it four.”

robinson chose the marie Curie cancer charity for a donation from the award sponsor McCrea Financial Services.
