ADAM: IT ALL ADDS UP TO TITLE GLORY

- BY ALAN ROBERTSON

ADAM BROWN jokes even some of his team-mates were scratching their head at the various scenarios that’ll decide whether a first league title is theirs today.

So the Stenhousemuir midfielder is keeping it simple – beat a revived East Fife and they’re in League one next season.

Thirteen points clear at the top despite four draws on the trot, the crown is Stenny’s should they win – or draw and Peterhead fail to win... or both themselves and Peterhead lose and neither Dumbarton nor Spartans bank three points.

The Warriors’ social media team even tweeted a flow chart graphic.

Brown, whose week started with a contract extension until 2025, quipped: “A couple of boys in the changing room are struggling to understand it so that tells you it all!

“Every game you go into, I know it’s a cliche but especially this year, you just want to try to win and Saturday is no different. You need to try to perform well and take our chances when we create them.

“We know now if we win the game, we’ll clinch the league, so that’s our aim.

“We’ve probably not been as clinical as in the earlier part of the season.

“It’s not for the lack of trying. There have been times where things haven’t fallen to us or we’ve just not taken our chances properly. Good thing is we’re still creating chances.

“It’s only one defeat in nine so it’s still a good record. We’ve not scored as many goals as we would like to but Saturday is another chance for us to get back on track and get back on the scoresheet.

“If we win the game then it’s us, we don’t need to rely on anyone else. But we know it will be difficult as East Fife are flying.”

While they have scored once in four games, the Warriors have only shipped

one goal, taking them top of the SPFL clean sheet chart with 18 in 31 games.

Brown said: “It’s incredible and testament to DJ (Darren Jamieson), the back four, the defenders. It’s testament to the whole team as well because we do press from the front.

“Everyone plays their part when you look at defending set-pieces. It’s one we’re proud of.”

Brown’s start last week at Dumbarton, his first in five weeks, triggered his contract extension and he added: “I was just delighted it eventually happened.

“When I knew that was in my deal from last year, I kept a record from the start of the season. I knew it was close and the management team knew. If we can go and win the game you don’t get much more perfect weeks.”

East Fife are still unbeaten eight games into Dick Campbell’s reign, with midfielder James Lyon following him in the door on loan from Partick Thistle.

Goals in back-to-back games have boosted his confidence as they eye a late play-off charge. Asked about the advice given, Lyon said: “‘Get out on that park and show us what you’ve got, go and win the game’. That works for me.

“The first maybe two games I never did much, so the gaffer basically told me, ‘Get your finger out, we need to get you playing to the standard you’re capable of ’ because I wasn’t. A wee thing like that makes me go, ‘I need to take a look at myself and start going’.”
