Cam: We’re all together – and intent on survival

-

CAMERON HARPER is adamant boss Duncan Ferguson’s short-term signings aren’t taking a loan of Inverness.

As a local lad who grew up watching his heroes thriving in the top flight, nobody feels the threat of a tumble into League One more keenly.

But the left-back is certain their reliance on nine loan signings this season hasn’t been to blame for their struggles.

Supporters have grown restless as results fail to materialise at home.

Ferguson has overseen superb away form, with only three defeats in 13 – but nine matches have passed without a win at the Caledonian Stadium since November 11’s triumph against Ayr.

But Harper said: “When I was young Caley Thistle were a Premiership team. As long as we stay up, that’s all that’s on my mind.

“I might have a bit more of a stronger feeling, but the loan players still get it 100 per cent. As a team, we’ve had that conversation. Everyone is fully on board.”

Harper knows it hurts the supporters to see how far the team has fallen but added: “It’s not been good enough. In this situation, though, we need our fans more than ever. It can give us a boost if we could make the place a little bit noisier.”

Goal difference means Caley Thistle can effectively relegate Arbroath. But Leighton McIntosh knows what it takes to achieve miracles after his part in Dundee’s survival, despite a 25-point deduction, in 2011.

The striker said: “It was the team spirit that made us stand out. There’s still a good team spirit here at Arbroath and the fans will always back you. Hopefully we can start getting the breaks and some wins.”
