Caolan will continue to prove how good he is
STEPHEN ROBINSON reckons Caolan Boyd-Munce has been proving doubters wrong ever since he coached the midfielder in the Northern Ireland youth ranks a decade ago.
Now, after the 24-yearold triggered a year extension on his St Mirren contract last night, the Buddies boss has backed him to cap off his rise to the top by becoming a fully fledged international.
Boyd-Munce has been a revelation since arriving a year ago after his release from Middlesbrough.
And the Buddies boss reckons bigger things beckon for the player who has yet to win a full cap despite being in squads. Robbo said: “I’ve known Caolan since he was 15. I had him as a kid and he played with my son.
“It was Northern Ireland Under-15s or 16s when I was coaching them. He’s always had tons of ability.
The perception was he didn’t get around the pitch as well as he should but he’s worked so hard to get fit.
“He’s proved a lot of people wrong with that and he’s gone from strength to strength.
“It’s fantastic to see his progress. I think he’s got a fantastic partnership with Kwon in midfield.
“We’ve evolved as a football team and he’s been a big part of that in terms of dominating the game and creating things.
“So I’m delighted we’ve got him for another year and it’s obviously up to him to progress and get that international cap I believe he deserves.”
A win over Hearts today would seal top-six status for a second year in a row. Robbo said: “We’ve come a long way very quickly and we’re trying to build foundations to make this occasion of being a top-six side more achievable.”
