We have to give every Finn for our brilliant fans

- By ALAN ROBERTSON

FINN ECREPONT admits having POTY awards on the same day Stranraer’s club 42 fate was sealed turned out a blessing – because it just hammered home who they are fighting for.

The Blues head to Lowland League champs East Kilbride for the first leg of a play-off to decide if their time in the SPFL is up.

The defender, 21, came back in for his first start in six games as Stranraer prepped with a 2-0 finalday win over champs Stenhousemuir.

The result ended up irrelevant as Clyde won at Elgin but Ecrepont said: “We’d the player of the year do last week and after that kind of day, you’re thinking, ‘Maybe it won’t be nice’. But the fans were amazing and all showed they’ll stick by us.

“It was a real positive energy around the club. I was speaking to the captain Grant Gallagher after the do and he said, ‘That’s why we want to stay up – for them’.

“There definitely is a real positive feel around the club and everyone is supporting each other. But it’s now up to us to do it.

“The win over Stenhousemuir gives us the belief that no matter what the result is we can go to Stair Park and anything can happen.

“Away from home our form hasn’t been good enough all season, so hopefully we can do well away and bring it back to Stair Park because we know we can beat anyone there.

“Boys in the team, me included, have all played in big games, we’ve just got to take it in our stride and make sure we don’t let the occasion get to us as it’s quite a young squad.”

Robert Thomson took the decision in January to drop out of the SPFL for the first time when he left Stirling for Kilby.

But the striker admits he did so in the belief he wouldn’t be saying goodbye to the leagues for long.

Thomson said: “That was part of the factor of joining East Kilbride – they do have that ambition.

“Everyone involved at the club is desperate to get into the leagues.”
