CELTIC had just ended Rangers’ 10-in-a-row charge and the Light Blues, under Dick Advocaat, were keen to regain the title. The Hoops had gone into this unbeaten but Gers took a 12th-minute lead through Neil McCann, right. Stephane Mahe was sent off for the home side and Hugh Dallas was struck by a missile. The ref then awarded Rangers a penalty after Morten Weighorst fouled Tony Vidmar and Jorg Albertz made no mistake. McCann clinched the points and the title with the third goal in the 76th minute before Gers’ Rod Wallace was sent off and Celts defender Vidar Riseth also saw red.

THIS wasn’t a match that clinched the title but it gave Rangers the belief they could. Goals from Nacho Novo and Gregory Vignal gave put the Ibrox side three points clear at the top and saw the Hoops’ 11-game Celtic Park unbeaten run against their old rivals bite the dust. It was a game marred by crowd trouble and Fernando Ricksen was hit by a missile. Gers clinched the title on Helicopter Sunday, as they beat Hibs and Celtic lost at Motherwell.

CELTIC went into this one with a point lead but a goal from Steven Davis, above, put Rangers ahead going into the final straight. The Northern Irishman also cleared another off the line to give Walter Smith’s men a two-point advantage going into the final three games. They drew with Hibs and beat Aberdeen and Dundee United.

THIS was hardly a classic but a late penalty save from Allan McGregor kept Walter Smith’s team ahead. The experience­d keeper saved from Georgios Samaras to keep Rangers one point ahead although Celtic had a game in hand. Gers finished the season in style with four straight wins and clinched the title on the final day with a 5-1 win over Kilmarnock.

RANGERS had the title in the bag before the final two derbies. Steven Gerrard’s men drew 1-1 at Celtic Park and aimed to go the league season unbeaten going into this one. Jack Simpson put Rangers ahead and Kemar Roofe, above, made it two as Callum McGregor was sent off. Odsonne Edouard gave Celtic hope but Alfredo Morelos, Roofe again and Jermaine Defoe sealed it. Unbeaten Gers went on to beat Livingston and Aberdeen.
