Capaldi i’ll Naima that tune
Plasterer emotional after star tells her story of helping others to recover
LEWIS Capaldi has released a new music video in tribute to a female plasterer who redecorates the homes of domestic abuse survivors for free.
The singer was touched by the story of Naima Ben-Moussa who wanted to help others after suffering domestic violence and abuse in her youth.
After training as a plasterer, she set up a charity called Rebuilding Lives UK which works alongside organisations such as Women’s Aid to help people renovate their homes.
The 39-year-old, originally from Buxton, Derbyshire, has been a plasterer for four years.
Lewis has posted an emotional film online, set to his latest song A Cure For Minds Unwell, showing Naima’s journey.
She said: “I cannot begin to say how overwhelmed I am that Lewis Capaldi chose me to be the face of his latest video for A Cure For Minds Unwell, which tells my story that I hope will ultimately help save lives.
“His lyrics about mental health struggles say so much about what I think so many of us feel, and his line about ‘smiling while I’m hiding what I’m going through’ is extremely powerful to me.
“I hope this video is a symbol of hope to all the people out there who have suffered domestic abuse and helps you feel that you are not alone in this world.
“Hope for me is raising awareness we, and other charities like us, can help people come through the bad times because you know help is there.
“Thank you Lewis from the bottom of my heart, thank you for being you.”
Lewis is releasing a video for each song on album Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, dedicated to a person with an inspiring and uplifting story.
He said: “For each song on this album, we have made these little short films about a different individual’s story.
There’s been so much horrific news everywhere you look so we wanted to do this wee series to share some good and share some uplifting stories about these people and what they’ve been able to do.”
Lewis, who was diagnosed with Tourette’s last year, was forced to take a break from music after struggling to finish his set at Glastonbury in June.
The 27-year-old, from Whitburn, West Lothian, called off his tour to address his mental and physical health – a move he described as “the most difficult decision of my life”.
A Netflix documentary released last year documented his mental health battle.
