Priceless pair on £7 a night
SCOTLAND captain Andy Robertson and Lawrence Shankland used to pocket £7 a night in expenses at Queen’s Park.
Now former Spiders team-mate Neil Parry reckons they are priceless for the national team.
Robbo and Shanks played together at Hampden as teenagers for the then amateur outfit during the 2012-13 season.
Keeper Parry believes the experience the pair gained at Queen’s was vital to their development and he can’t wait to see them starring for Scotland at the Euros.
He said: “At Queen’s Park back then it was £7 a night expenses you got but the facilities were excellent.
“People used to think Queen’s Park gave you wages on top of the expenses but they didn’t.
“Andy would do jobs around Hampden, such as selling programmes, just to make a few quid.
“But the experience at Queen’s Park proved to be excellent for both Andy and Lawrence.
“They were on £7 but they are now priceless for Scotland. It’s great to see what they have both done, Andy now at Liverpool and Lawrence at Hearts.
“I’m sure they would say the grounding they got at Queen’s Park, going to play at Elgin and places like that, they learned a lot from it.
“It’ll be a pleasure to watch them on Friday night against Germany. It’s incredible.”
Robertson set a new Scotland record when he skippered the nation for a 49th time last Friday against Finland.
And Parry added: “That’s an unbelievable achievement when you think back to some of the names who have captained the country.
“It just shows you how far hard work can take you. Andy had an unbelievable determination, he kept learning and developing.
“Lawrence’s skill is finding the right position and he can score rockets from outside the box.
“That skill is priceless and I’m sure if we need a goal, we can look to him.”
