FROOMEY ON COURSE FOR £30M

-

CHRIS Froome is on the road to a £30million fortune. He is scheduled to win his third Tour de France today. It will make him only the fourth rider to score a Tour hat-trick. And with a new Team Sky deal worth £4million a year in his pocket, he is eyeing at least two more wins in the world’s biggest bike race. “Froomey”, 31, has wife and manager Michelle to thank for negotiating his pay rise PATRICK WILLIAMS from Sky. He is already worth £15million and that could double if he bags two more Tours, putting him alongside Eddie Merckx and Miguel Indurain.

While Chris has been hammering the pedals in the gruelling three-week race, Welsh-born Michelle has been brokering lucrative advertising deals and TV appearances.

Chris – born in Kenya to a UK father – can expect a rush of companies wanting him to endorse their products. Sports marketing experts reckon that Chris – a Tour winner in 2013 and 2015 and second behind Sir Bradley Wiggins in 2012 – could easily rake in millions on top of his salary over the next few years.

It will complete his rise from the lad who used to train at altitude in an African township with no inside toilet, to a global sporting superstar.

Chris also battled the deadly tropical disease bilharzia.

He had it for four years, between 2009 and 2013, and doctors had to use special medication to cure him.
