Surge in late-night hotel hook-ups

-

RANDY Brits are fuelling a rise in last-minute hotel bookings after hooking up on nights out.

People are increasingly using their phones to grab rooms on the spur of the moment.

A fifth of Brits quizzed said they had made same-night bookings.

More than a quarter of men bagged a room for casual sex.

And one in ten women said they checked into a hotel after meeting someone that evening.

More than one in 20 bookings are now made after 10pm, according to the Hotels.com Mobile Travel Tracker. Dan Craig, senior director ISOBEL DICKINSON of mobile at Hotels.com, said: “We have seen an increasing trend in people making more same-day hotel bookings on mobiles.

“There is often still a lot of choice for wannabe hotel-stayers, even after 10pm.

“Even more good news for those party people who want to end their night in a hotel is that you can now book hotels up to 5am.” Flirty thirty-somethings seem to be the most spontaneous generation, with almost half owning up to making same-day bookings.

Summer seems to be the most popular time, with Valentine’s Day and birthdays in second and third place.

But it is not just the late-night love-ins which are fuelling the increase.

According to 6% of bookers, getting away from the in-laws was their reason for a grabbing a room at the very last minute. Revellers who had missed their last bus or train, those who were working late and people who just wanted to treat themselves also helped to make up the total.

But despite a number of us getting lucky, Brits lag behind other countries when it comes to the love stakes.

Brazil (54%), Spain (51%) and India (44%) had a much higher number of people wanting to extend dates until the morning.
