PAUL HETHERINGTON RYAN GIGGS is no nearer to his first job as a manager.

The Manchester United legend was linked with Wigan last week following the sacking of Gary Caldwell.

But the Daily Star Sunday understands that both parties regard the move as a non-starter.

Giggs, 42, is not pursuing the job at the DW Stadium and the Championship club have lined up a coach to take charge of the team.

That is thought to be Man United’s Under-21s coach Warren Joyce.

Giggs quit Old Trafford in the summer after being overlooked for the manager’s job when Louis van Gaal was sacked.

Jose Mourinho was United’s choice to succeed the Dutchman and Giggs then lost out to American Bob Bradley for the Swansea job following their decision to part company with Italian coach Francesco Guidolin. SOUTHAMPTON manager Claude Puel played in the same position as Oriol Romeu – but admits the Spaniard is a better player than he ever was.

Romeu (left) has emerged as one of Saints’ key men this season, with the former Barcelona man excelling at the base of Puel’s midfield.

Conte arrived in the summer and has taken time to assess things before setting about reviving the fortunes of a club who have endured a turbulent 12 months. And while the former Juventus boss insists it will be a big ask for the Stamford Bridge outfit to win the title, he is not ruling it out just yet. Ahead of today’s game at Southampton, Conte said: “I have a good f eeling about the club. “When you arrive in a new c l ub yo u n e e d a b i t of time to understand, to breathe in the new atmosphere and also to a 19-year career with Monaco but he says the Spaniard is superior on the ball.

“He’s more technical,” Puel said ahead of today’s game against Chelsea, another of Romeu’s former clubs.

“I played in front of the defence and I had a good recovery of the ball but now it’s important to have a player in this position who is very technical.

“To play in this position, it’s important the player has the ability to work the ball and to change and to switch it wide while anticipating the situation.

“It’s a very important part of the team and all the opponents try to use good pressing, because every ball recovery on this play is potentially dangerous for the team.

“It is important for this player to be a good technical player, to not lose the ball
