Mark and Chelle set to be cult figures

TOM CRUISING FOR BRUISING

-

ACTION man Tom Cruise said the stunts on his latest film were so extreme he feared he would be killed.

The Hollywood star is in cinemas as ex-army officer Jack Reacher in Never Go Back.

During filming in New Orleans he pulled off a string of death-defying set pieces.

In a tell-all chat with the Daily Star Sunday, Tom said: “You’re always trying to prep and make sure the stunts go right. “But there’s always a chance it could go wrong and you have to be prepared for that.

“We try to do things as safely as possible. Even when you are doing ED GLEAVE fight scenes we always say the actors have to protect themselves at all times because a mistake can happen. It doesn’t matter how skilled the guys you’re doing the scene with are.” Over the years Tom has dangled from a plane, held his breath underwater for more than six minutes and even scaled the Burj Khalifa – the world’s tallest structure. But he said: “There hasn’t been a stunt I don’t want to do. The important thing about a stunt is it has to be part of the story. I’m always coming up with different ideas to make things work as part of the story.” Tom has been dubbed the world’s biggest movie star thanks to his box office hits.

Since first appearing on the big screen 35 years ago he has starred in films including Top Gun, the Mission: Impossible series and Minority Report.

He said: “There are still so many roles I’d like to do. I’ve always wanted to make two or three movies a year. “I love what I do. It’s always challenging. I love movies. I watch one every day.”

Tom, who is touring to promote the Jack Reacher sequel, says fans have followed him for decades.

He said: “There are people I see year after year. I’ll see their children with them. It’s beautiful.” TV COUPLE Mark Wright and Michelle Keegan are “trying out” Scientology.

Pals say ambitious telly presenter Mark, 29, thinks that following in the footsteps of A-listers like Tom Cruise will help them hit the big time.

So Mark and ex-Corrie star Michelle are said to be investigating the religion as they “network” with Hollywood bosses.

A close friend of former TOWIE hunk Mark told the Daily Star Sunday: “Mark says that he’s never been a massively religious man, and obviously he and Michelle married in a civil ceremony, but Scientology fascinates him.

“He’s keen to learn more about it and how it works. He says it’s the ultimate networking tool.

“Mark said it’s not just who you know, it’s the network you’re in, and if it worked for Tom Cruise it would work for them.”

Critics have likened the religion to a cult because of its strange beliefs and practices. It was founded by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard. Followers of Scientology, which is the subject of a Louis Theroux film, believe humans are descended from aliens.

The far-out claims haven’t stopped megastars like the Mission Impossible actor and screen legend John Travolta joining up.

Our source added: “Michelle believes in a higher power and says she knows of lots of people turning to Scientology.

“Basically, Mark is always going to check out anything that helps get them into the right circles and gives him an ‘in’ with LA royalty.”

But pals in Essex are worried about the couple’s latest strategy to make it big across the pond after Mariah Carey last week blamed Scientology for wrecking her engagement to James Packer.

The source said: “There’s all this hype around Scientology but then so many of their marriages end in divorce.”

A spokesman for Mark Wright last night denied the news.
