ANTONIO CONTE’S Chelsea surged to the top of the Premier League last night after putting Everton to the sword at Stamford Bridge. A first-half super show effectively ended the game, with the visitors clearly set up to try to frustrate the Blues. But the Toffees were forced to abandon that approach after Eden Hazard scored in the 19th minute, followed by Marcos Alonso’s effort – which hit the back of the net just 23 seconds after the restart from the first goal. Diego Costa slotted home before half-time and Hazard scored again 11 minutes into the second half. Pedro rounded off the scoring with 25 minutes left as Conte’s side cruised home against Ronald Koeman’s outfit. Chelsea have now scored 16 goals in the Premier League since they last conceded and are perfectly placed going into the international break after five wins in a row. Hazard said: “It was an unbelievable win. “We scored five beautiful goals and could have scored more. “I am enjoying my football, we are playing well, we are creating a lot of chances and scoring a lot of goals. Top of the table is a good place and we want to stay there until the end.”

Koeman said: “They played very well, I expected more from my team. It was a big difference in every aspect.

“It was not about the system, the difference was the mentality to win the game. After 2-0 it was over.

“You have to accept sometimes in life your opponent is by far the better team.

“Chelsea have the winning mentality and quality on the ball. They were far too strong for us.”

If they carry on in this fashion, Conte’s revamped Chelsea could well prove too strong for anybody in the Premier League this season.
