Two completely contrasting outcomes for the Burnley and Crystal Palace bosses as substitute Ashley Barnes scored a dramatic winner just seconds before the final whistle. Dyche had no need for a monitor as his Burnley battlers pumped themselves up into a two-goal lead through Sam Vokes with his fourth of the season and Johann Berg Gudmundsson who grabbed his first for the club. But Pardew looked like being t he Palace king of t he comebacks with substitute Connor Wi c kham a nd Christian Benteke pulling his side level before Burnley’s heart-stopping drama. Dyche, when asked how his ticker was bearing up, said: “It’s not so bad. I’m still alive which is always good after a game. “What a finish. I’m definitely not the Special One, the Ginger One will do.” Pardew said: “I would have been quite happy to take a point at the end but unfortunately we made another error, which we made for all of their goals really. Burnley punished us and it’s galling.” The home side could barely have got off to a quicker start, going ahead after just 80 seconds. Gudmundsson whipped over an inviting cross, Matt Lowton had a pop and in the goalmouth scramble Vokes prodded the ball home. Palace responded with a Jason Puncheon shot which was saved low down by keeper Tom Heaton, who then kept out a Wilfried Zaha effort. But in the 14th minute Gudmundsson skinned Palace’s defence in a lightning-quick break and hammered a drive at keeper Steve Mandanda that somehow squirmed under his body and into the net. Andros Townsend squandered a great chance when the ball fell at his feet but he blasted wide when his side needed better.

And then Benteke’s snap-shot was safely gathered by Heaton before the striker headed a gift of a chance wide.

Vokes, though, was more direct in that department and was unlucky with two quick-fire shots saved by Mandanda, this time with a strong left hand.

The double stop was the signal for Palace to spring into life and Zaha sped clear to slide across for substitute Wickham to score with his first touch on the hour.

And in the 81st minute, Townsend’s cross hit Lowton’s arm and referee Anthony Taylor immediately pointed to the spot.

Benteke slotted the ball into the bottom corner to equalise and shock the hosts.

But in the fourth minute of added time, the majority inside Turf Moor went wild when Gudmundsson pulled back for substitute Barnes to crash the ball into the roof of the net.

The drama, though, did not end there with former Newcastle man Townsend smacking the foot of the post deep into injury time to leave Pardew’s Palace down and out.
