Mac’s off getting plastered

-

Anderson, his country’s all-time leading bowler with 463 Test wickets, has been out for three months with a shoulder injury that not only saw him miss the recent drawn series in Bangladesh but also raised fears he would be ruled out of the entire winter.

Yet after working his way back to fitness in the nets at home, the leader of England’s attack will fly out to Rajkot on Tuesday with a view to playing in the second Test at Vizag starting on November 17. Ahead of a daunting NICK PARKINSON JAMIE McDONNELL will swap the glamour of defending his world title in Monte Carlo for plastering.

The Doncaster boxer, 30, will put his WBA bantamweight title on the line against Venezuelan Liborio Solis, 34, at the glitzy Salle des Etoiles on Saturday – two days before he dons his overalls again. McDonnell (above) has won six world title fights but has not given up his job as a plasterer alongside brother Gavin.

He said: “I’ve lined a couple of jobs up after this fight. I’ll go straight home, do a job and then go on holiday to Mexico. When I get back I’ve got another job on.

“I enjoy the work. My brother does a bit as well and it’s a good craic with the other lads.

“It gives you something to do when you’re not training, otherwise you would just be eating.

“We’re not on stupid money. I can’t just put my feet up unless I drop on a big wedge of money.

“When I retire I will have something to fall back on.”
