‘I didn’t join The Voice to find a star’

I’ve made it after years of struggle

THE Voice coach Gavin Rossdale says he doesn’t care whether the contest finds a new singing star.

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Star Sunday, the Bush front man revealed he signed up partly to boost his UK profile.

Gavin denied he had “sold out” but admitted he needed the talent show more than it needed him.

The Voice has faced criticism because it has not produced a successful artist in five series.

But straight-talking Gavin, 51, said: “I didn’t join The Voice with the mindset of finding a star.

“All I care about is that the people on my team leave happy and don’t regret picking me as their mentor.

“I care about doing the best job for them, not about finding a successful winner.”

Gavin, ex-husband of No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani, is joined on this year’s show by fellow newbie Jennifer Hudson and regulars Sir Tom Jones and will.i.am.

Some fans thought he was a POSH Spencer Matthews has reined in his bad boy antics to please his future in-laws.

The Jump star, previously exposed as a drug user who bedded over 1,000 women, will see his brother marry Pippa Middleton, 33, in the spring. And he told of his family’s relief that his latest TV project focuses on skill rather than his saucy side.

Spencer, 27, said: “They’re not worried about me breaking anything. They’re just happy I’m doing a competitive sports strange choice for ITV because he is much better known in the USA than in his home country.

But Gavin said one of the reason he signed up was to promote his new album.

He said: “I am aware that doing the show is great exposure for me. It’s a coveted seat on a huge show.

“It is not only a huge opportunity for the contestants but also for the coaches, apart from Tom Jones who doesn’t really need The Voice.

“But I’d never lose my integrity of who I am or what I believe.”

Bush release their seventh studio album next month.

Gavin added: “I went into my own studio every day that I wasn’t looking after my kids and it morphed into being an album.

“I still feel like I’m growing as an artist and I wanted to make a record I love myself, and that’s what I have done.”

Black and White Rainbows is released on March 10. JIMMY McCLOSKEY show as opposed to something that focuses purely on my character, because that’s quite dangerous. “At least this time people are less interested in my sex life and more interested in how quickly I get down a hill. I think that’s more appealing to them and me too.”

The Made In Chelsea star spoke as he continues to impress on the Channel 4 winter sports contest. Spencer has admitted taking LSD and battled a steroid addiction that saw him thrown off I’m A Celeb.

But he plans to continue his good behaviour to avoid embarrassing his relatives.

Brother James, 41, proposed to the Duchess of Cambridge’s sister last year, with their wedding due in the spring. LINDA Jennings has spent the last 10 years auditioning for some of Britain’s biggest TV talent shows. Last night the 48-year-old finally made it on to our screens in The Voice.

And her version of Beatles song The Long and Winding Road was enough to persuade three judges to turn their chairs. Linda then had to choose between Welsh singing legend Sir Tom Jones, rocker Gavin Rossdale and Black Eyed Peas rapper will.i.am to be her coach.

Speaking about finally making it after years of trying, mum-of-one Linda said: “I’ve been doing music all my life.

“I’ve auditioned for a show every year for the last 10 years. “I’ve done X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent and The Voice when it was on the BBC but I’ve never got further than a preliminary meeting. “I’ve never actually stood on the spot in front of Simon Cowell or any of those people.

“But I’ve always had a go. For one of the X Factor auditions I dressed up as a fairy and thought I’ve got this story, I’m doing it for charity but still I didn’t get through. “So the fact I finally got through just blew my mind.” Quirky Linda, who plays guitar, bass guitar and sings in a number of bands, eventually decided to join Sir Tom’s team. She added: “I couldn’t believe it when will.i.am and Gavin turned round and I was totally freaked out when Sir Tom turned round. I was jumping around inside but I had to carry on with the song.

“It was just the most amazing feeling. I remember thinking if just one person turned round I’d be really happy, so to have three of them was just incredible.”

She also bounced back after a horrifying bike accident in 2014 left her fearing for her right hand. Linda had been taking part in the Manchester naked bike ride to support a friend. She said: “After the ride we got dressed and I was heading back to the car when I was suddenly knocked off my bike.

“I broke my collarbone, ribs and I had concussion. But it was damage to my hand that worried me.

“I broke my knuckle. I wasn’t able to use my hand and was concerned that I might not be able to play my instruments ever again.

“Luckily, it’s fine now.” FURIOUS Ola Jordan says competing on The Jump left her with permanent damage to her leg.

The Strictly siren signed up for the show two years ago but had to pull out after suffering a horror injury.

In an exclusive chat, Ola, 34, said: “I still haven’t recovered 100%. My leg will never be the same. “I can do pretty much everything in the gym. But there will always be something niggling me.” After Ola hurt her leg medics SUSAN HILL warned it was so severe her career as a professional dancer was at risk. The ordeal left her worried about her future and she has admitted she regrets doing the show.

Ola added: “It was a really sad time for me.”

Stars including actress Tina Hobley and Olympians Beth Tweddle and Rebecca Adlington have also been injured on the show. This series, cyclist Sir Bradley Wiggins pulled out with a leg fracture.
