Vicky: ‘I feared I would cop it’

-

VICKY McClure feared writers would kill off her character when she started filming the latest series.

She plays DS Kate Fleming on the drama, which is known for its surprise deaths.

Bosses handed out scripts in stages so the cast had no idea how the series would end.

Vicky said: “You never know what’s going to happen. You just never know if they’ll kill you off.

“We tend to get the first three episodes initially. Then while we’re filming we get the last three.” Movie star Thandie Newton is joining the cast for the fourth run, which begins this month.

Vicky told us: “She is amazing. It was brilliant to work with her. She was a great laugh and a lovely woman. And she’s fiercely talented. “She was a fan of the show, so I think she was excited.” Line of Duty had BBC Two’s biggest drama ratings ever last year. Its success convinced bosses to put the new series on BBC One. Vicky said: “There was always going to be pressure for it to be good, even if it was staying on BBC Two. There’s an anticipation to make sure we keep the same standard. “Hopefully we’ve done that. Jed Mercurio is an incredible writer. “There is a real style now on Line of Duty with the long interrogation scenes. He manages to build tension in a way that really grips.” WAYNE Bridge says his jungle stint overshadowed his football career.

The former Manchester City ace said: “Doing I’m A Celebrity was a strange experience because I’m not used to being in front of the camera.

“The weirdest thing is I feel like I’ve been recognised more for that show than I am for playing football.

“I haven’t got the bug for reality telly – it took me a while to agree to do the jungle to be honest.”
