DYLAN CAN MAKE MARK WITH LIONS

-

DYLAN HARTLEY has been told to “keep his chin up” because he could still be a British and Irish Lion this summer.

Hartley, 31 (below) is the latest England captain to be snubbed for the tour of New Zealand.

The unhappy hooker also missed out in 2013 when he was selected but then banned for swearing at a referee in the Premiership Final.

Hartley will now lead England on their summer tour of Argentina while 16 of his Red Rose pals fly off to the Land of the Long White Cloud.

That includes Saracens’ Jamie George who got the nod from Warren Gatland despite being Hartley’s Six Nations understudy.

But former England wing Mark Cueto knows all about getting on board the tour via the back door after getting a late call-up from Sir Clive Woodward 12 years ago, for what turned out to be a nightmare campaign against the All Blacks.

The ex-Sale star was a last-minute replacement for the injured Iain Balshaw and Cueto thinks it will be a miracle if Gatland’s entire squad get to New Zealand.

He said: “Dylan will be feeling very disappointed GARY FITZGERALD but he should keep his chin up. The same goes for all those lads who just missed out because there is still a chance that things could suddenly change. “There’s so much rugby still to play with massive games both domestically and in Europe with virtually all the Lions squad being involved. “The chances that someone will pick up a knock here or there are pretty strong. “When I found out I wasn’t in in the initial squad in 2005 it was a bad moment for me. “But I had been named on the reserve list and within two weeks someone got injured and I was next in line. “I ended up going and even though it didn’t go very well it was still a great experience and something I will always cherish and remember.”
