UK’S HOTTEST DAY RECORD COULD BE BROKEN Sizzling summer set to hit 100

-

FELICITY CROSS BRITAIN is set to swelter in 100F heat this summer.

Forecasters predict an “extreme heat” period with three months’ hotter-than-average temperatures and highs pushing 38C – and possibly breaking records.

Today the mercury will nudge 32 degrees, before going on to peak midweek at a blistering 35C (95F).

The outlook from the Met Office’s long-range forecast suggests we are in for a shift to above average temperatures for the time of year.

The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: “37C is possible in the UK this summer as long as the early summer pattern of heat being pumped up from southern Europe continues.

“This summer has a higher than average chance of extreme heat in the UK. It’s promising news for Wimbledon and school holidays.

“Hot air from around Spain always leads to very warm spells in UK, but this year this hot air could be even hotter when it arrives in Britain, after incredible 42C early summer heat in Iberia.”

Our hottest day ever was recorded on August 10, 2003, in Kent. Ladbrokes has cut odds to 4/1 for this summer breaking that record.

Meanwhile, Brits are snubbing the humble banger for more exotic meats like buffalo, venison and even ostrich for the barbecue.

Iceland head chef Neil Nugent said: “We’ve noticed a definite shift this year in our customers’ options over the traditional burgers and bangers.”

But Asda’s one-pound Daddy of All Burgers and Aldi’s huge 16oz Big Daddy rump steak were still popular.
