‘Mafia lad’ to take on McGregor

-

THE grandson of a mafia boss is gunning for Irish UFC world champ Conor McGregor in the ring.

Mixed martial arts fighter John Gotti III’s grandad was “Teflon Don” John Gotti, who once ruled New York’s mob families with an iron fist.

The 24-year-old now has his eye on a showdown with McGregor, 29, after making his professional debut last week.

New York fight promoter Jimmy Burchfield said Gotti is “the real deal”, adding: “He’s built like Superman and has terrific speed and agility.

“I believe he’s something very special.”

Unlike his grandfather, who died in jail from throat cancer in 2002 while serving a life sentence for five murders, Gotti is keeping under the radar as he battles his way to the top.

He turned down a lucrative offer for TV rights to his debut pro fight against Johnny Adams, which he won with a first-round knockout.

Mr Burchfield added: “I could have plastered the Gotti name all over town to capitalise on the fight but I’m respecting his wishes to remain low-profile.”

A WOMAN suffered a “potentially life-threatening” head injury after being struck by a milk float.

Police were called to Haverhill, Suffolk, at 3.30am yesterday after reports a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle.

Last night the woman was being treated at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.
