CRACKDOWN ON FURS BID
MPs want a ban on the sale of real fur to be considered after finding it is being labelled and sold as fake.
The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee found local authorities and Trading Standards have been “poor” and “complacent” at enforcing regulations on the sale of real fur. The committee’s inquiry follows cases of fur being sold as fake by high street and online retailers including TK Maxx, Amazon and Tesco. Many had no-fur policies but were selling rabbit, fox and chinchilla.
Committee chairman Neil Parish said: “Reports of real fur being sold as fake shows retailers are flouting their responsibility to consumers.”
